Lame customer service from Orange Romania

I wrecked my SonyEricsson G900 while skiing in Austria this spring. Since then i apologized to my old SonyEricsson Z510i and use it for daily phoning. But i want a new phone. I want a shiny new Android powered SonyEricsson. After some research i’ve found the SonyEricsson Xperia Arc which was launched in early April this year. So this is the phone i want.

Being an Orange Romania customer since 10 years (back then they were called Dialog) i have the possibility to buy from them from time to time a subsidized phone. So obviously i looked if they have the SonyEricsson Xperia Arc available. They don’t have it. So i wrote them a support request asking when this phone will be available in their network.

The answer i got after almost two weeks is that they don’t have the phone, they don’t know when it will be available and they advised me to choose another phone from their offering.

Hell, i write you a support request because i want THAT phone, not other phones. And what is a customer service good for if it can’t help the customer in what he needs ? Serving standard responses which have no use for us could be done by a robot. You don’t need to pay a whole bunch of  people for that.

In fact Orange became in the last period a big black hole which only knows how to suck money out of you and fails to offer the existing customers  (i’m a customer since 2001) any good deals or offers that they have for the new customers. If i want to buy a new phone, i get a pretty lame price as an existing customer while new customers can get that phone at a third of the price i’m being offered. And this is not just for phones. For their communication plans the situation is the same. As a new customer you get more included minutes, more messages and more data transfer then an existing customer.

So what if i just break my contract with them ? Obviously they don’t want to hear about this and will try every trick in their arsenal to stop you from ending the contract.

But if i really want to then i’m entitled to end my contract as my previous subsidy expired. And maybe i just buy a phone at full price and buy rechargeable sim cards. So i will have no monthly fee for the misfortune to be their customer.
